The project involves the engineering of Riyadh’s New Underground Line 3 of about 41 km, which is part of the King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project.

BACKGROUND

Line 3 is the longest line out of the 6 new lines running through the capital city Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

The total length of all 6 lines about 180 km. Line 3 runs in the East West direction along Al – Madinah Al Munawwarah Road and Prince Saad Ibn Abdulrahman Road.
A multi-level parking facilities is also available for for users and is 114,000 m² big.

The main technical data of the line are:

Line Over Concrete Slab Viaducts: 25.73 Km
Line In All Types Of Tunnels: 9.73 Km (Including About 3.5 Km With TBM)
Surface Line: 4.10 Km
Train Maintenance Depots: 2

The Contrax team, along with our partner 3TI progetti were tasked with project management and technical delivery of Permanent way and trackwork design, Instrumentation and monitoring of the full length of line 3 (40.4km), and Quantity surveying and cost control.

The process of Monitoring includes the provisions of instrumentation and engineering services, aimed to assess the effect of the construction of the Line 3 on the existing structures and the interactions between the new ones and the ground condition. The required objectives of the instrumentation and monitoring of the Works are to determine ground movements and their effects. The project was carried out based on detailed monitoring plans and on contractual requirements and expectations.
On the other hand, the Contrax team received a separate contract with regards to the PSD (Platform screen Doors) Installation project management, from Wabtec Faiveley, a leading OEM in the transport sector. Our team received training at Wabtec’s factories in China in order to manage the installation process in Riyadh. Our team supported on the logistics, warehousing, engineering and installation of the PSDs
